I had the honor of sitting down with President Walid Farah and Vice President & Director of Government Relations, Jeremy Smith, of the CCTA:
Canadian Cannabis Tourism Alliance. We discussed groundbreaking initiatives, including the implementation of a QR bar code system at Canadian borders for tracking and data collection related to the cannabis travel and hospitality economy.
One of the standout achievements was the success in British Columbia, where the BC Craft Farmers Co-op Group led the charge in securing Canada’s first street closure for cannabis-related events during the 420 summit in Prince George, Central BC, in year 2024. This allowed vendors to legally sell cannabis products during the summit. The BC Craft Farmers Co-op also explored and participated in cannabis trails and dispensary hopping as tourism draws in the region.
The province of Ontario made its mark by hosting Canada’s first successful 420 Music Festival in Niagara Falls, the country’s tourism capital.
The CCTA continues to petition the Canadian Cannabis Regulations and Act alongside Harrison Jordan, JD, CBP, CEP, CBE, CNFTE and Substance Law, pushing for reforms that address the cannabis travel economy in a holistic and inclusive manner. This includes collaboration with provincial liquor and cannabis commission boards to ensure the industry flourishes.
